Biloongra: the Next Generation (aka Biloongra V3.0) part I

Part I

Meet the Biloongra family members.

BILOONGRA. The central character Biloongra is a fun-loving, compassionate, and mischievous kitten. The exact breed is unknown, but is likely a Persian (tortoiseshell kind), and looks like a much younger version of Luna (my Persian cat, picture below). Biloongra is special because he can talk. Thus he has the ability to comment on his human family members and their peculiarities, irrespective of any coherent responses from them.

Note: for the cultural contextualization of storytelling, Biloongra remains Biloongra in all languages or dialects, unlike the rest of the characters!

NOORI.
The little girl around eight years old, I believe, is the main human child character. Biloongra and Noori have a special bond because like Biloongra, Noori is fun, carefree, forgetful, messy, loving, and caring. They tend to get into trouble together. Noori is assertive and outspoken. She does not take crap from anyone. She fights for her rights and those of other girls (and for her older brother’s too, when feeling magnanimous). Noori is not a bully nor will bully (maybe her family though!). Noori likes the great outdoors; playing soccer, and climbing trees particularly.

Note: Noori is named Ada for the Nigerian context.

SAAD
. The elder brother of Noori is not quite a teenager yet. Unlike Noori and Biloongra, Saad is not at all loud, rough, or outdoorsy. Responsible, cautious, and the ever concerned first born prefers his books, music, and artwork - all indoors. He gets into perpetual arguments with Noori (classic sibling rivalry). Saad is really the conscience of Noori perhaps (think Jiminy the Cricket for Pinocchio!).

Note: Saad is named Chike for the Nigerian context.

ALI. The baby brother of Noori and Saad. Around one year of age, the infant has a mind of his own (aka the toddler’s independence already!). Ali hates doctors. Ali loves Biloongra; is rather expressive in his affection for the kitten, although the feelings aren't mutual.

Note: Ali is named Kunle for the Nigerian context.

AMMA. The mother is a working lady, but equally a care giver/home maker for the family. Is particular about discipline and routine. Biloongra fears Amma because she’s not impressed with the ‘wild’ feline behaviors such as scratching furniture, shedding fur (although that’s not quite in Biloongra’s control), rubbing against human legs, the general moodiness of cats, etc. Hence, he prefers keeping Amma at a kitten paws’ length.

Note: Amma is named Mama for the Nigerian context.

ABBA. The dad works (profession unknown). But when at home Abba tends to get into rough, tumble, messy, and funny fun with the kids (and Biloongra). Abba tends to get told off because of his lack of ‘disciplining’ of the kids, particularly Biloongra’s!

Note: Abba is named Baba for the Nigerian context.
